LearnNet

LearnNet is Argyll Centre's online program. Students from Grades 4 to 12 are connected to their courses, teachers, and other learning resources through internet-based technologies. Students who register in LearnNet will have access to courses that meet the requirements of the Alberta Program of Studies.

LearnNet allows students to have a plan for their education that meets their individual needs. Students can create their own learning schedules on full or half-year plans, and 24-hour access to the network allows maximum exposure to on-line courses and resources. A flexible, personalized timetable allows students to pursue their unique interests or goals, for example, the arts or athletics, and to modify their learning schedules to accommodate this. LearnNet provides students with opportunities to succeed while travelling for extended periods or when moving to other parts of Canada or the world.

LearnNet is a teacher directed, online delivery strategy. Students in both elementary and junior high LearnNet programs are assigned a teacher. Students in High School are assigned a teacher advisor for each subject. Students registered in the LearnNet program can expect teacher to provide yearly and monthly plans to support learning and time management. In consultation with parents and students, adjustments can be made to help meet individual needs. Parents are encouraged to arrange meetings with their child's assigned teacher early in September if their child requires modifications to the program.

The option exists for students to take two or more courses using LearnNet and complete the rest of their program of studies either:

  • by addressing the Alberta Program of Studies offline - "modified LearnNet program"
  • or
  • by taking a home education approach for less than 50% of their program - "LearnNet blended program".
