The goal of the Live Online program is to construct social learning communities. Students learn in multi-graded, cross-curricular learning cohorts. All cohorts adhere to the Argyll Learning Partnership. This powerful partnership promotes great student learning! I have never seen him as engaged in his learning and how much his curiosity is alive. The Live Online teachers are committed to implementing an engaging learning approach in a positive online environment. Technology is integrated thoroughly with Alberta curriculum objectives, resulting in enrichment and challenge.
Students enrolled in the Live Online program need access to a computer, Internet, speakers, and a microphone to attend synchronous (same-time) online classes. Live Online students live all over Alberta and the world; they travel digitally to learn together in a virtual classroom (a web-based platform called “Elluminate Live”/Elive).
I want to tell you again at how very delighted I am with my son's E-Live experience. I have never seen him as engaged in his learning and how much his curiosity is alive. I have always tried to provide a rich learning environment and this year has exceeded my expectations for him. I know that you put an enormous amount of time into your work with the kids. He has such a comfort with you and you have brought the very best out in him. I cannot say a more deeply felt Thank You to you Michele. You have no idea the gratitude I feel. It is wonderful to partner with you in helping my son to acknowledge his own gifts and abilities.
A teacher's comment about a Live Online student: 789 Live Online students work on their health: at home with their parents, online using the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens program and in the 789 ELive sessions. My student has completed 13 of the 7 Habits lessons for an average of 91%. Way to go !. He has practiced setting and reviewing goals, using planners, working cooperatively and communicating clearly in the ELive sessions.
The new Live Online program is a home based education model that depends on a learning triad-partnership: parent educator; teacher instructor; student learner. It brings together a synchronous (live) virtual classroom, asynchronous (access anytime) learning tools and spaces, and the home environment. This program gives students an opportunity to become intrinsically motivated to learn and the flexibility to follow a self-paced, individualized program. This constructivist learning environment challenges students to strive to attain grade level understanding of content in addition to forming life-long learning skills and attitudes: critical and creative thinking, problem solving, technological literacy, communication, decision-making, initiative, responsibility, and self discipline. As students progress through the program they will be encouraged to share their knowledge thus creating a vibrant learning community. By participating in the development of their Educational Plan students learn to create realistic goals, pursue individual interests from within curriculum guidelines, and choose the manner by which to demonstrate their learning. This term students were challenged to identify their interests, form questions based on curriculum, conduct research to find answers and demonstrate what they learned using a variety of digital tools. Feedback for learning is based on input from the triad partnership. Parents share information from the home environment by providing details of progress made on learning goals established in the Individual Education Plan. Students reflect on their achievements by developing an electronic portfolio for the Celebration of Learning. The teacher provides feedback on the progress made on cross-curricular assignments and virtual classroom participation.
