Learning Paths

Who do you want to learn from?

In Alberta, you have the opportunity to decide who will be responsible for your child's education. You may choose to delegate that responsibility to a school, or to retain it and teach your children yourself. You may also partner with a school to share the responsibility, teaching some material yourself, while the rest is taught by the school.

...we value and depend upon parental involvement in all of our programs.

Argyll offers you the full range of opportunities, from helping you choose and deliver a fully home-based education plan yourself, to different methods of sharing the responsibility of teaching, as well as several options for an education that is fully provided by Argyll teaching staff. Because most of our programs are delivered at home, we value and depend upon parental involvement in all of our programs.

Teacher Directed Program Full APS

An accredited teacher will be responsible for instructing and evaluating the student in a program that uses the standard Alberta Program of Studies (APS). The parent remains involved in a supporting role.

Home Education Home Ed

The parent develops and delivers their own education plan. Argyll staff is available to assist in developing a plan that will meet the provincial requirements.

Blended Program Blended

Parents, students and teachers work together to develop an education plan delivered by a combination of the parents and teachers.

Learning Partnership

A truly collaborative effort between the home and the school, combining the strengths of parent-student, student-teacher, and parent-teacher interaction.

The Alberta government uses public dollars to fund education. Funding varies according to the level of public accountability in the program. School authority programs are subject to a higher level of public accountability than home education programs and so receive a higher level of funding. Alberta Education calculates funding for blended programming based on the proportion of the student’s education program that the school authority and the parent each accept.
